An actual product dotCOM, very impressive. I like this name because it is a direct name meaning anybody who comes to your site is going to be expecting info, ads, products, or reviews on Dinner Knives.
"Dinner Knives" has a relatively low Google search volume at a mere 1,300 searches/month but on the flip side it has a good amount of advertisers. Also being a product name I would think there would be some nice direct type in traffic, but I don't know.

I am going to put a pre-bid in on this name, not because I am goo goo for dinner knives but because I feel this name holds value in the sense that dinner knives will always be dinner knives and more importanly dotCOM will always be dotCOM. Also my wife recently bought a nice set of dinner knives for the house and I need some ad revenue to pay for them! :)
I bought my first domain for $8, sold it within 72 hours for $500. I put the $8 back in my pocket and have operated in the black (positive) every since. I have a portfolio of a few hundred domains. My Portfolio is divided in 3 categories; Flips, Development, and Investment. The Flips category pays the bills for all the other domains, the development domains are for me to play with, and the investment portion is what I consider to be my retirement, on top of my IRA, 401K, etc.
I am a firm believer that the domain market is a secure investment with ALOT of room for growth and potential. Granted, the days of hand-regging one word domains and 3L.coms are over BUT ANYONE can make a name for themselves in this business with $8, a passion to learn, and time to dedicate.
This economy has provided a two fold experience for domainers, for some it is a time that portfolios must be skimmed down for financial reasons, for others it is a time to buy domains they couldn't of touched 2 years ago..
I am fortunate to be one of the investors who can buy in this current market. So that is what I am doing at the moment, a little development and a lot of buying.. collapse

There is no doubt that this domain name has some value, but I am not overly excited by its potential. Although it very clearly represents a specific product, that product is by no means a category killer. A much better domain name would have been steakknives.com which has more than 10 times the hits and type-in potential. I would be surprised to see the domain name go for more than the low $xxx.

Long-tail domains, like this one, are challenging to sell and build with PPC volume and rates dramatically down. And natural search would be too low to justify any development as well.
I'd love to recommend this one because it's a generic keyword, but I can't see a lot of value with it.

Two popular generic keywords joined together with a dotcom to boot illustrate an important point here - if you have a two word name, the words need to feel natural together. "Steak" and "knives" or even "Deadly" and "knives" yes, but this name is not really in general use.

And its not quirky enough to brand.
What is has got going for it is: *Generic *Easy to spell even if long *Non-cyclical product area - we need knives in a recession, although we might spend less to replace them or as a present.
Googling and MSNing "dinner knives" leads to lots of ads - especially in googles case.
I think that the natural instinct to "pooh pooh" this domain name will lead to someone getting a bargain for about $100, but I think its worth more than that to a reseller, probably $350. I have doubts that an enduser will be watching this one..
As always, reg the .net, .org and info available currently. collapse

DinnerKnives.com, hmmm not really a common term such as steak knives or butter knives. Limited to only knives as well. I wish you the best on this but I think this is really limited in scope and would be hard to develop into a profitable online business.
If you buy it, may have better luck contacting dinnerware manufacturers and convincing them to have the name as a redirect.

I like this name. It's correctly spelled and it's the .com. Let alone its a product based name with several advertisers behind the keywords. Google yields almost 4 million results on the search phrase dinner knives. This domain could be flipped or developed for a nice profit. Better yet, finding a drop shipper might be your best bet. This one has a PPC value and a development value. Low end value should be somewhere around $700 and my max bid would proably be in the $1900 range.

Although this name sounds extremely nice, its really not that great. The sound and term itself is pretty top notch but not according to the general public or google itself. The search data on broad is only 1,400 but exact is at a low 390. On top of that the max PPC is only $1.05.

I do see the comparable sales on this and i do agree that someone might go overboard pretty easy here. Even though i do see the down sides of this domain i also see the potential. The name may not be as mainstream as everyone thinks but with the nice sounding compliment of words to go along with a product name this could be a nice little product site done with the right SEO. Taking advantage of ebay, affiliates, and adsense this could pay off if done correctly even with the low PPC.
Would not be surprised to see this top $500 or more, despite the low statistics. collapse

Another domain in the "maybe pile". The name sounds direct but I think it has little value. In my opion, the only thing going for this domain is that it has a DOT COM extension. And, SteakKnives.com is totally different. It has a much more range than "dinner knives".
It might fecth high $xx- low $xxx...but I could be wrong! In saying that, I hope the seller gets more.

This domain does have development potential. It is a simple 2 word .com
It is over 2 years old so it does have some seasoning to it. The other extensions are available .net,.org etc are available, which usually is an indicator of limited value otherwise those TLD's would have already been gobbled up. It should bring at least $100+ to it owner, but I could not see it going over $500. With that said if a person has a specific vision in mind for a website it could in a private sale go for over $1000, but in auction format I will stick with under $500
