History is defined as "the record of past events and times esp. in connection with the human race". From ancient civilizations to events of the present day, history happens all around us. Don't miss the opportunity to grab this high quality, generic domain name.
An easy to remember term such as history provides ample opportunity for development. A reference site geared toward students is an obvious fit for such a domain name. But there are many more options for history.cc. Any genre of history works here. Whether it is American history, music history, ancient history, art history or any number of other "histories", they all fit with this domain name.

The fact that .com, .net and .org are active websites, not for sale (unclear for .info), definitely increases the value of the .cc.
Just look at any newspaper stand in America or in Europe: I am always amazed to see the number of historical magazines. No need of having an academic training for being in love with history. This means that history.cc can easily be developed in a variety of ways. Of course, if it is to emerge, it cannot be a replica of History.com (a very attractive layout, that one!). The .cc TLD - with its association with "carbon copy" - would fit especially well a website presenting, commenting, introducing, etc., historical documents - e.g. starting from one or several documents (what all historians do) in order to explain an historical event or topic. Just an idea in case the buyer is eager to develop it... collapse

With the thousands of .wannabes and .everythingbutthekitchensinks shortly available, I am not sure that a .CC stands a chance without a significant amount of marketing. If I was advising someone interested in history, I would advise them to spend that money on a better domain name in the first place. Sorry.
On Bido, I am sure that .CC has a fan club so it may get $250-$500.

I have an MBA and am currently undertaking an LLM, studying Intellectual Property on the Internet (I am not an attorney of law, nor am I training to be, but I feel that legal/TM issues are sometimes overlooked by domainers in the earlier years of their experience).

I like the domain and would develop it into something similar to either archive.org or wikipedia. This domain name has development written all over it, but could also be flipped for a healthy profit since the keyword is very strong and is one that is recognized all over the world. Maybe the History Cable Channel would be interested in such a name.

I'm a real estate investor, website designer, domain reseller and domain name adviser. I have been successfully buying and selling domains for over 15 years. I recently open and run a private reseller domain market at CityMonster.com to buy, sell and trade my premium private domains.
One of my major Pet Peeves is:
1) Domain Appraisals - It is ridiculous to pay a registrar, domain aftermarkets or someone for their opinion on your domain. Until ICANN officially certifies companies to do domain appraisals I will continue to see this service as credible as a fortune teller (waste of money).
Domain appraisal schemes are a million dollar market for domain sites! Why? The ICANN has not certified none of them! Why are we paying them?
The most expensive domains I sold were the ones to be consider "Very Poor Rating" by domain appraisal standards. wake-up people!
My Tips:
I treat domain names like Real Estate. Because in reality that's all a domain name is (online virtual property).
Tip on getting the most out of a domain when buying and/or selling:
Learn and follow the market. Follow the hottest products, news or sites. Follow trends. When a trend dies so does the domain key-worded for that trend. Learn when to sell and when to hold. Remember a domain is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. No more, nothing less. collapse

Single generic word: great! Extension: not so great. Yes, I know the extension usually does not matter in the case of a single word generic. You can develop it and rank it well in Google, regardless of the extension. Still, bad extension.
As far as type-in traffic or direct leads to a future website go, no chance here. You will always be sending your traffic directly to the .com or .org in my opinion. By default.

Many domainers tend to overlook .CC because of the relatively high renewal price. Fortunately, most .CC domains fare quite well once they have been adequately developed. While I don't see this domain making huge money, its definitely a category killer and it would probably be well monetized with Amazon.com affiliate ads or a similar strategy.

The markets change often. Sometimes the changes are pretty small and are seldom even noticed. There are changes that are ever so evident, things that are as easy to see as an elephant hiding in a room (if you can stretch your imagination to believe that an elephant had a chance at the endeavor). A big elephant-in-the-room example is with LLL.com's. A year ago, I couldn't see even the worse LLL, comprising of the most horrid letters known to exiat (and with 26 letters in the English language, well... I'm digressing) selling for under $8,000. Has the market changed any for .cc? I'd have to say that I haven't seen any real change in them; if there are any changes, they must be small because I have yet to notice them. I've bought NNN.cc for as low as $5 a few years back and I still see many LLL, NNN and keyword .cc's sell for pennies. And now, here we are, staring at history.cc & contemplating how much we think it's worth.
My answer? No more than $50. This is an auction and people tend to overbid. But I saw CountryGirl.net, a very brandable name, recently sell on here for dirt-cheap. So who knows? All I am certain of is unless a person had interest in developing this domain, $50 should be the highest bid made. .cc is a terrible market and unlike extensions such as .us, one could never say that .cc is now dead since it never had life, to begin with. collapse

Another great name bad ending. Certainly could be developed and could do well in google rankings but will almost certainly face the problem of the public forgetting the tld. It can still be a nice investment as long as the price stays reasonable and I believe it will for this name. I love the name "history" but its the future of the .cc ending that bothers me

Great dictionary word. Even in this extension it has value because it is such a good keyword. Personally I am very weary of investing in any extensions other .com,.net,.org,.mobi at this time. Estibot values this name at $910. Not bad for a .cc. My guess it sells at Bido for around $500
